Days 30 – 59, Lokakuu Joensuussa

After a month of living in Joensuu and writing this blog I of course lost motivation, became lazy, instead of procrastinating by writing I started procrastinating procrastination by other stuff like guitar, frisbee golf, sauna, etc. Didn’t write as often as I wanted. I decided to do so now and summarize the whole month, during which Joensuu became little bit boring (but this blog should be ultraboring, at least I keep in the original topic). Day 14, Cycling Joensuu

This Sunday (instead of church as usual) I went to a cycling competition whose main purpose was to get to know Joensuu that I already knew well. Anyways, Jani, Times and me formed unbeatable multi-neighbourhood dreamteam with all possible winning features calles Voileipä (butterbread), with intention to win, not to have fun. Day 13, Ruunaa “Rafting”

Few days ago I signed up for a trip to Ruunaa – small village close to Russian border and also hiking & recreational area. So on saturday I was already awake in the middle of the night (9 am) and getting on the bus  with couple of exchange students barely standing on their feet, occasionally falling asleep. The  bus journey driven by unknown Finnish bus driver took 1,5 hour and huge deficit of sleep overcame excitement from the trip so I couldn’t watch beautiful Finnish forests everywhere around us. Day 11, Lehtiä Ilosaaressa

A special day. Woke up early, full of energy and elan. I was going to my first festival in Finland, was full of expectations and butterflies in the stomach and hoped that my 2 months long pogo-deficit will disappear today. So I went to student union office to buy a ticket (12 EUR, I was even more sure that it’ll be epic, for this money it must be). Fortunately, they had one of the last (500) tickets, lucky me. Then me and Jani traditionally overate at lunch (delicious “casserole”) and threw a frisbee – special moves were better now, but I forgot the basic ones again and the food inside my stomach could’t decide if it should stay or should it go (out). Continue reading Day 11, Lehtiä Ilosaaressa

Days 2 – 4, Orientation Boredom

When new (exchange) students come to university in Finland, they are completely confused and lost, so they need something that will end their suffering and show them the right direction in their academic lives. That’s when the orientation programme comes and saves all those innocent lives. But. It is unbelievably booooooring…and the whole text below is boring, it’s just an exact copy of the diary we had to write in order to get 1 ECTS credit. Yeah, I know, it’s not worth this huge boredom but I did it anyway. To make you read this I hid some Finnish jokes into the text, but no laughter or point guaranteed! Falling asleep hazzard! Continue reading Days 2 – 4, Orientation Boredom

Day 9, 5th last day of summer

A borrowing day. Woke up soon in the morning (10:30) and the weather was fine again, so what to do another “last day of summer”? I went to yliopiston kirjasto (school library) – at some point in your life, you have to do it. Had to satisfy needs of my institutional coordinator, Bc. Lády. Sent him a scanned copy of my brilliant-rated language course certificate, after few hours of confused search I borrowed Finnish Grammar, a little flame of hope of passing the Finnish 3. Then started a detailed search for Student Union office. Couple hours later I entered to well hidden room with familiar faces, which was luckily the right place. Borrowed a frisbee, not exactly one for frisbee golf i wanted… Continue reading Day 9, 5th last day of summer

Day 8, First Sunday

I skipped church today, slept long. Oh God, forgive me, it won’t happen again. It was a beautiful day (again) so we spent an hour in a shop to buy stuff. The plan was to go on a bike trip. When I heard it day before from Jani, I was repeatedly considering the only pro (stylish hipsterbike) and all the cons (everything else) of my newly aquired bike. But after a while I was determined to give it a try. Continue reading Day 8, First Sunday
